Phase Four features all of the Marvel Studios productions set to be released from 2021 through 2023. It is the first phase in the franchise to include television series, with Marvel Studios developing several event series for the streaming service Disney+ in addition to the feature films that it was already set to produce. Phase Four began with the series WandaVision, which premiered in January 2021, while the first theatrical film in this phase is Black Widow.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS.

Release Date: May 6, 2022.

Dr. Stephen Strange, with the help of both old and new mystical allies, travels into the multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary.

By December 2018, Doctor Strange (2016) director and co-writer Scott Derrickson signed to direct a sequel, with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his title role. The title was officially announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, along with Elizabeth Olsen's involvement.In January 2020, Derrickson stepped down as director over creative differences, but remained an executive producer.The next month, Sam Raimi signed on to direct,and Loki (2021) head writerMichael Waldron joined to rewrite the script; Raimi confirmed his involvement in April 2020.Filming began by November 2020 in London, but was halted in January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed by that March,and concluded in mid-April 2021 in Somerset. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2022.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the first season of Loki. Elizabeth Olsen co-stars as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, continuing from her appearance in the series WandaVision (2021), which directly sets up the film.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

Release Date: july 8, 2022.

In January 2018, Chris Hemsworth expressed interest in continuing to play Thor, despite his contract with Marvel Studios then ending after Avengers: Endgame. By July 2019, Taika Waititi signed to write and direct a fourth Thor film after previously directing Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and the title was officially announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con later that month, with Hemsworth returning alongside Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who becomes the superhero the Mighty Thor after her absence from Ragnarok. In February 2020, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson joined to co-write the screenplay with Waititi. Filming began in late January 2021 in Australia, and concluded that June. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will be featured in the film, with Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel reprising their respective roles as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax the Destroyer, Nebula, and Groot, alongside Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri from previous MCU films.

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

Release Date: November 11, 2022.

By October 2018, Ryan Coogler signed to write and direct a sequel to Black Panther (2018). Joe Robert Cole also returned for the film to once again co-write the screenplay with Coogler. Feige confirmed the film was in development by mid-2019 with the placeholder title Black Panther II. Plans for the film changed in August 2020 when Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer, with his role as T'Challa not recast. Some of the main returning cast members were confirmed by that November. The title, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was revealed in May 2021. Production began in late June 2021 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, and lasted until early November 2021, before a hiatus began later that month. Filming resumed in mid-January 2022. Shooting also occurred in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, and in Brunswick, Georgia. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022.

THE MARVELS

Release Date: February 17, 2023.

The Marvels is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superheroines Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel. The film is a sequel to Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame and a crossover/sequel to WandaVision, Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion.[5] It is the thirty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the eighth film of Phase Four. The film is set to be released on February 17, 2023.

The Marvels will be set up by the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022), with Iman Vellani, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur reprising their respective roles as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, Amir Khan, Muneeba Khan, and Yusuf Khan from Ms. Marvel, alongside Teyonah Parris as the adult Monica Rambeau from WandaVision, after the character was previously portrayed as a child by Akira Akbar in Captain Marvel.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Release Date: May 5, 2023.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The film is a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It is the thirty-second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the ninth film of Phase Four. The film is set to be released on May 5, 2023.

The film is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Release Date: July 28, 2023.

Ahead of the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Peyton Reed and Marvel Studios expected a third Ant-Man film would be made and had discussed potential story points, with Reed returning as director by November 2019, alongside Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne / Wasp. Jeff Loveness was writing the script by April 2020, with the title and new cast members revealed that December. Filming in Turkey began in early February 2021, while principal photography began at the end of July at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, and ended in November. Shooting was also scheduled to occur in Atlanta and San Francisco, to last until 2022.

Jonathan Majors appears as Kang the Conqueror, after first appearing as a variant of that character called He Who Remains in the first season of Loki.

FANTASTIC FOUR

Release Date: TBA.

At the July 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced Marvel Studios was developing a Fantastic Four film for the MCU, with Jon Watts announced as the director in December 2020.

MOON KNIGHT

Premier Date: Mars 30, 2022.

Moon Knight is an upcoming American web television series, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. It is the eighteenth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the tenth installment of Phase Four. The series is produced by Marvel Studios and will be released on Disney+.

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has Dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

MS. MARVEL 

Premier Date: 2022.

Ms. Marvel introduces viewers to kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Pakistani American from Jersey City. An aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the World — that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she's always looked up to.

Ms. Marvel will set-up The Marvels (2023).

SHE-HULK

Premier Date: 2022

She-Hulk revolves around Bruce Banner's cousin, who gains superpowers after receiving a blood transfusion from him.

At the 2019 D23 Expo, Marvel Studios announced that a series centered on Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk was in development, with Jessica Gao hired as head writer that November. In September 2020, Tatiana Maslany was cast in the title role. Filming began in mid-April 2021 in Los Angeles and at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing episodes of the series. Filming wrapped by late August 2021. She-Hulk is set to premiere in 2022, and will consist of ten episodes.

Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth will reprise their respective roles as Bruce Banner / Hulk and Emil Blonsky / Abomination from previous MCU films.

SECRET INVASION 

Premier Date: 2022.

A sect of Skrulls have infiltrated all aspects of life on Earth.

By September 2020, Marvel Studios was developing a series centered on Nick Fury, with Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role and Kyle Bradstreet serving as head writer. That December, Marvel Studios revealed the series to be an adaptation of the Secret Invasion comic book storyline, and confirmed Jackson, with Ben Mendelsohn co-starring as Talos. Filming had begun by September 2021 in London, with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim directing episodes of the series. Additional filming will occur across Europe. Secret Invasion is set to premiere in late 2022, and will consist of six episodes.

THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Premier Date: Holiday 2022.

In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced that James Gunn would write and direct a new television special featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the main cast returning. Filming began by February 2022 in Atlanta, during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to premiere in December 2022.

IRONHEART

Premier Date: TBA.

In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced a series centered on Riri Williams / Ironheart was in development starring Dominique Thorne, reprising her role from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Chinaka Hodge was hired as head writer in April 2021. Ironheart will consist of six episodes.

ARMOR WARS

Premier Date: TBA.

James Rhodes must confront one of Tony Stark's greatest fears when Stark's tech falls into the wrong hands.

In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced a series based on the Armor Wars comic book storyline, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes / War Machine. In August 2021, Yassir Lester was hired as the series' head writer. The death of Tony Stark will factor into the series. Filming is expected to begin in 2022.
